The Beverly Citizen announces that MassPay’s Fed Up With Cancer team is named Grand Marshall of 2018 North Shore Cancer WALK
In their efforts to continually try new things to promote the North Shore Cancer WALK, the organizers from North Shore Medical Center and the Mass General/North Shore Cancer Center ran a fun social media contest for the first time this year.
Using Facebook, they asked teams participating in the WALK to fundraise their way to be named Grand Marshall of the 2018 WALK, which is taking place at Salem Willows on Sunday, June 24.
The team raising the most money online by end of day on May 28 would be chosen to lead the WALK. After a fun campaign, the winning team was named.
Fed Up With Cancer, which raised $23,700 by the contest deadline, will serve as the Grand Marshall for this year’s WALK.
The team is led by Jason Maxwell, president of MassPay, a payroll and benefits company headquartered in Beverly. Maxwell is also the founder of Fed Up with Cancer and served as the North Shore Cancer WALK chair in 2012.
“Our annual food tasting fundraiser, Fed Up With Cancer, held at Danversport, is how we were able to contribute to the North Shore Cancer WALK,” said Maxwell. “Through sponsorships, ticket sales, silent and live auctions, and other activities, those who supported Fed Up With Cancer are the ones that truly deserve the credit for the donation.”
The Fed Up With Cancer team will be at the starting line on Sunday morning to lead the expected 5,000 walkers on the six-mile walk through historic Salem. Maxwell expects nearly 70 people will be walking on his team, including approximately 18 MassPay employees and several children of family and friends.
Raising awareness and funds to fight cancer is an important cause to Maxwell, having lost his father to the disease when he was a boy and his brother-in-law in 2007. Founding Fed Up With Cancer and holding an annual food tasting event each year to support the North Shore Cancer Center has been his way to do something to help.
