Man on a mission: Man walks from Yankee Stadium through CT, heading to Fenway Park for one cause

BRIDGEPORT – People show their support for their favorite causes in different ways.

And, for one Red Sox fan, he couldn’t think of a better way than to walk 203 miles, from one of baseball’s most famous ballparks to another. All while looking to hit a home run that could impact thousands for years to come.

En route from Yankee Stadium to Fenway Park, Boston attorney David Spillane stopped long enough, along Straford Avenue in Bridgeport, to tell FOX61 “a lot of people tell me that this is very crazy.”

His step-by-step mission: raise $100,000 for the Elizabeth Stone House, in Roxbury, MA, which supports survivors of domestic violence and related trauma. His inspiration: a male survivor he heard speak on behalf of Elizabeth Stone House.

“He said that he wishes that a place like this had existed when he was a child with his mother,” Spillane said.

His walk began Tuesday, just before a the opener of the Red Sox-Yankees series in New York.

“I walked through the Bronx wearing a Red Sox shirt and a Red Sox hat,” he said proudly.

He’ll finish his northeastward trek at week from Saturday, just prior to game two of the Yankees-Red Sox series at Fenway Park. The money Attorney Spillane is helping to raise will be used to nearly triple the amount of service that the Elizabeth Stone House will be able to render.

“We believe it’s going to be the largest complex in the state devoted entirely to survivors of domestic violence,” said Jim May, Director of Development for Elizabeth Stone House. He is acting as Spillane’s spotter on his walk.

Last year, he raised $50,000 for the Elizabeth Stone House by walking 161 miles from Stockbridge, MA to Boston, two locales prominent in James Taylor’s hit “Sweet Baby James.”

“I’ve seen James in concert 17 times,” said Spillane, who said Taylor never took him up on his invite to walk along with him.

This no doubt is a man who supports things he likes. To contribute to Spillane’s walk, click here.

Connecticut’s WTNH Features Elizabeth Stone House Walker

Man Walks from Yankee Stadium to Fenway to Raise Money For Charity

MILFORD, Conn. (WTNH) – One baseball fan is making the journey from one iconic ballpark to another — walking 200 miles from Yankee Stadium to Fenway Park to raise money for survivors of domestic violence.

Boston native and Red Sox fan David Spillane started his  journey in Yankee territory on September 18. On Thursday, he walked through Milford.

“It’s a problem that exists everywhere,” says Spillane. “I was talking through some of the fanciest suburbs in America, Westchester County and Fairfield County and you look around and think it’s pretty beautiful until you stop and think, it’s happening here too. It’s happening everywhere.”

He’s raising money for Elizabeth Stone House, a resource center for victims of domestic violence in Boston. Last year he walked from Stockbridge, Mass. to Boston and raised $50,000. This year, he’s looking to raise $100,000. The money would go towards a new building for Elizabeth Stone House. “The size of the problem of domestic violence is so huge that we can’t begin to address it in the small facilities we have now,” says Jim May, the director of development for Elizabeth Stone House.

For Spillane, the journey brings together two passions: baseball and helping others.

“It’s the greatest rivalry in sports history,” says Spillane, “and what better way to celebrate that between one ballpark to another.”

And whatever side of that rivalry you’re on, David wants you to help out.

David is set to arrive at Fenway just in time for the Red Sox Yankees game on September 29 where he’ll be honored on the field before the game.

Elizabeth Stone House Volunteer Walks From Yankee Stadium to Fenway Park

Man makes trek from Yankee Stadium to Fenway Park on foot

WESTPORT – One man is making a 200-plus-mile trip on foot from one iconic MLB stadium to another to benefit domestic violence victims.

David Spillane wanted to do something big to raise $100,000 for victims of domestic violence at the Elizabeth Stone House in Massachusetts.

So Spillane decided to walk all the way from Yankee Stadium to Fenway Park.

He kicked off his journey by walking through the Bronx in a Red Sox jersey. He travels about 18 miles per day.

“I talk to everybody, one time someone said that I would talk to a light pole, which is actually pretty accurate,” says Spillane. “I tell everybody about what I am doing, sometimes I get in trouble, but usually not.”

Spillane expects to arrive at Fenway on Sept. 29. The Red Sox plan to recognize his efforts by inviting him on the field before a game.

He says he is willing to throw out the first pitch if they need someone.
